On January 25th, Genesis Village was presented with the annual "Community Partnership" award from the Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities.  Sandy Spang was the keynote speaker who shared her brother Steve's incredibly inspirational story. What a blessing this organization has been to us and we are so proud of our Genesis Village team for helping "pioneer" with people like Sandy who want to see change and growth in our community.

Congrats team on a job well done!

Activities inside our community

Well we certainly like to get out and take trips but we also have fun within our building!

Veterans Day Celebration - WE LOVE OUR VETS! (Well, ALL Vets!)

On November 11, Genesis Village hosted a Veterans Day Celebration with residents, many Veterans, guests and even Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson in attendance.  Veteran testimonies, special music, and comments from Dawn Heisler of Heroes in Action accompanied a special flag raising ceremony on site out front of the building.
GV Resident Julian “JB” Brown, who served on the U.S.S. Mackinac with the US Navy, said he always looks forward to Veterans Day, but this day he was really anxious to see our flag being raised. JB stated, “The Celebration was great, couldn’t ask for a better one. It was such a beautiful day.”  Another GV Resident, Charles Ewing, a member of the 2nd Infantry Division of the US Army, gave his testimony to the folks gathered and mentioned that he is 1 of 4 brothers in his family who all are Veterans. “The celebration was one of the most memorable days in my life, and very commendable for Genesis Village to host and also salvage the flag pole that may have just ended up in the scrap yard.”
We are so thankful for all Veterans but we are especially honored to share in the lives of so many of them who live at Genesis Village.  They are truly heroes to us and it is a privilege to now serve them in return.
THANK YOU VETERANS!

Summer & Fall outings!

We are always on the move!  Whether we are going shopping, to a concert, a Mud Hens Game, Sauder Village, walking at Sidecut, the Butterfly House, Fulton County Fair or even a trip on the Sandpiper Boat on the Maumee River, you can't keep us in one spot!!

Genesis Village is blessed with several consistent Volunteers and other Volunteer groups.  Just this past summer we were blessed by St. Patrick’s of Heatherdowns and Westgate Chapel folks who worked so hard at moving residents, working in the garden and cleaning out storage areas. We thank you!

Sunflowers for Seniors makes Special Deliveries for our precious residents

Sunflowers for Seniors started 4 years ago by First Toledo Local Director Patrick Abec. Patrick brings children to area retirement centers to present a bouquet of sunflowers to each senior. It is really an opportunity for the children and seniors to talk and share what they love. The reaction from the seniors always brings great smiles to everyone! The main reason this whole project was started is to remind our seniors that the community still remembers them and appreciates all that they have done.
This year the campaign reached out to 25 different senior communities  and has distributed over 2000 bouquets. We know what an impact this has made on our seniors and we are thankful that we have been blessed by their compassion!

Side by Side Band entertains with a Barbecue!

Residents and guests enjoyed picture perfect weather in our event parking lot for an outdoor barbecue and musical entertainment from the Side by Side Band!  Our partners Interim Healthcare and the Laurels of Toledo helped out with some activities and even took to the grill to help prepare our delicious dogs!
